Responsible home use
A camera driving around your home affects the privacy of the people in it. What is allowed, and what is not.
Strictly domestic setting
Using a camera inside your own home for personal purposes falls under the household exemption and does not carry the formalities of professional surveillance. That exemption falls away as soon as the purpose leaves the family circle.
What is not allowed
- Pointing the camera at the public road, a shared building area, a neighbour's garden or window.
- Filming a cleaner, a childminder, a tenant or a carer without their knowledge: these people must be informed, and monitoring their work is legally regulated.
- Filming a bathroom, a room occupied by a third party, or any place where a person may reasonably expect privacy.
- Sharing or publishing images of an identifiable person without their agreement.
Good practice
- Tell every occupant and your regular visitors about the robot and its patrol times.
- Use private mode while the house is occupied, and guest accounts with limited rights rather than sharing a password.
- Explain the robot to children; it is not a surveillance toy and not a substitute for an adult.
- Reset the device and wipe the memory card before reselling or passing it on.
